Everyday.8:2009.08.01

For the first time in many moons, I went to shoot "demonstrasi jalanan" (street demonstration" with some of the photojournalists that I have known. The demonstration is about Anti-Internal Security Act (ISA) lead by the opposition party (Gerakan Mansuh ISA) and there was supposedly another demo on Pro-ISA by a group who called themselves PEWARIS. Started at around 2pm, the peak of the demo was when the Federal Reserved Unit (FRU) started using teargas & water canons after the warnings to disperse given to the crowd was not obeyed. About 438 demonstrators were arrested by the authorities.
After more than 50 years of independence, the citizens of Malaysia may have different views on The Internal Security Act which was originally set to protect them. For some,in the recent decades up to the new millennium what was set to protect them seems to be used to protect the interests of some others. Being a matured nation, generally the citizens involved are trying to convey a strong message of what may be (or may not be) the truth about how ISA has been used.
